NAREC which stands for nairobi Recyclers is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) in Kenya. It has its main office in Nairobi and carrying out its enviromental waste management operations in Kenya. The concept of its activities began as a community based initiative in 2005. This was as a result of the growing number of street youths who were doing collection of used plastice bottles and selling to the middlemen who would later sell them to reprocessing industries. This was coupled with increased littering caused by careless throwing of solid waste to the environment.
Throughout the efforts of Mr. George Odindo Opiyo (Chairperson), Fr. Kizito Sessana Renato (Treasurer) and Boniface Okada Buluma (Secretary), the idea of creating a waste recycling project was mooted.
